Baskets

I have recentley been trying my hand at various craftiness (I don't know if that's a word or not). Hobby Lobby has become my new favorite place to shop. My latest project is these baskets.

They were given to me as a gift for Logan's baby shower(and if I had thought I would have taken a before picture). They were white with blue and white gingham liners. Logan's toys and clothes are now organized differently so I decided to redo these. The fabric is some that I have Loved for a long time and finally had a reason to use it.

So I spray painted the baskets brown. The liners were really easy to make. I just measured each side and bottom and sewed them together.

I am trying to talk Hal into making me a custom shelf so I can place them on the bottom and pick up smaller baskets for the top. I am not quite sure what I will use them for, but at least they look good.

We have a new pet. Not one that we asked for or wanted, but he apparently has taken a liking to us. I still don't like him. His name is Leonitus. He's not a cool pet like a dog, a cat, a fish, or a bird. He's a mouse. Not a domestice mouse, he's a wild one and he won't go away or be caught.

He's brave too. He will run out into the open with all kinds of noise and lights. And he will just sit there and stare at us. We've thrown shoes at him and he just sat there. Hal got up and got within a foot of him and Leonitus just stared at him.

I am getting very frustrated! I am tired of cleaning up after him. He doesn't even pay rent! Oh and did I mention he only has 3 legs. The other one is stuck on the glue trap.

Camping and Nebraska

June has been a very busy month for us and although it's been fun; I can't say that I am sad to see it go. We've done a few things we've never done before and when you do new things with a toddler I think it's a little more difficult.

Hal's father's day present was a tent so we could go camping one night over Father's day weekend (I know one night- no big deal, but we're beginners). So we found the perfect spot, not a lot of people around and far enough out of town to make it quiet (way too quiet). We planned on eating hamburgers that Hal was going to cook over the fire so we decided to leave on Friday at about 6:00. We accomplished that goal. Then we made a run to Target to get some last minute things- yard games, marshmallow roasters (I regret throwing out all my wire hangers now that I had to spend $3 on the roasters), an ice chest, and just a few small other items that I can't remember right now. Then we were off to QT to get soda and ice and a lighter for the fire (yeah we can't make a fire with sticks yet- like I said we're beginners). Finally around 7:00 we pulled out of town. The campsite was about 25 minutes away and we were all having a good time when about 20 minutes into the drive Hal slapped himself on the head and said,"I forgot a lighter." Okay so as not to have to eat raw hamburger we turned around to go to the closest gas station- about 20 minutes away. (And yes when Hal got out at the gas station I lovingly reminded him to not forget the Lighter).
Finally we made it to the campsite about an hour after we wanted to.
Hal put together our tent and made our dinner

while Kailea, Logan, and I played.

After we ate it was Logan's bed time. We wrestled for about an hour while I put him to sleep.

Here are some fun things that happened in the night:

1. Hal locked the keys in the car.
2. I had to use the bathroom, however, it was quite a distance away, so Hal held the lantern for me while I went by a tree. and wouldn't you know I picked the tree with the fire ants. Man those suckers sting.
3. About 4 in the morning we heard the rain hit the top of our tent, thus ending our first camping trip as a family.

This past weekend Hal got the opportunity to go to tryouts for MLB. It was in Omaha, Nebraska- about 6-7 hour drive. He did great, but didn't make the first cut. He was among a group of about 200 guys and the majority of them were still in High School and more than 10 years younger than Hal, and they are playing the game everyday where as Hal doesn't. It was a bit disappointing, but he left feeling very encouraged that performed as well as he did. He knows where he stands and what areas he needs to work on for next year so he'll be spending a lot of time at the gym!

We weren't in any hurry to get home so we stopped in Kansas City for a couple hours walking around an outdoor mall there. Logan enjoyed the outdoor fountain there and cried when we had to leave.

I'd like to say July will be less eventful for our family, but I doubt it.

It seems like the blogging world is a little slow. All of the blogs I like to read haven't been updated recently. So come on people blog for me so I have something to occupy my time. Because apparently a 20 month old, two part-time jobs, and keeping up on house work aren't enough.

Two Months?

I can't believe it's been two months since I have blogged. Just too much else to do I guess. My 15 hour a week job has turned out to be a lot more than I bargained for. I have been so tired and just plain lazy when I am not a work, my house is a wreck. I have also been working at the church A LOT.
Hal is doing great. He's really starting to like his job, if not enjoy it. He texted me today and played a mean April Fools joke on me- I so fell for it and he was proud of himself.
Kailea is doing good as well. She is ready for summer and all she can talk about is swimming. I swear the girl is part fish. She definitely loves her baby brother, but keeps pushing for a baby sister.
We are all excited about the two new cousins coming later this year (One on each side). One we know for sure is a girl and the other we are waiting to find out.
Logan is growing up way too fast, but he's still my baby. His new thing is to hide a toy and say, "where it go?" and then pull it out of where he hid it. I put him down for a nap the other day and snuck out of his room. When he woke up I was checking my e-mail and he walked through the apartment saying "Where you go, mama?" He changes everyday and I could fill up six blogs telling all the new stuff he is doing, but I guess I won't.

Our January

Tis the time of year to catch up on blogs I guess. At least I am not the only one who hasn't updated since before Christmas :). We haven't been up to too much lately. Working like crazy. I worked a full week this week (35 hours at the daycare and then 6 thru-out the week at church). Not a whole lot, but it seemed like a lot to me. Logan and I took off early yesterday (Friday) and caught up on sleep and our time together.

Logan has been working on getting some new teeth so he has been alternating sleeping a lot to hardly sleeping at all. He still loves Veggie Tales and I have found Veggie Tales fruit snacks can solve any heartache. He got his first hair cut right before Christmas. We were going to try to wait until he turned two, but got tired of strangers commenting on our little girl, so we cut it. I am still amazed with how much he changes from day to day. The other day he hooked up his video game to the t.v. by himself and he has learned what button to push on his cd player to make the music come on so he can dance.

Not much new to report on the rest of the family we are just all winding down from the holidays and wishing summer would come just a little bit faster.

(No pictures to share this time around. Long story.)

BRRRRR!

It's so cold outside (17 degrees and it was 75 yesterday). Logan and I are stuck in the house for the day, so I figured why not blog a little. Logan isn't feeling well today he's been sleeping all day and when he's not sleeping he's fussing, poor little guy.

I got a new job a couple of weeks ago. I am working with my sister at a gym in the kids area. I get to take Logan with me for free and I get a free gym membership- I've used it one time!!! Oh and to help time go by a little faster today;I am ashamed to admit I ate a whole can of cinnamon rolls by myself so I am going to need to use my membership at least 10 more times just to work off all those calories.

I'm am not at all ready for Christmas, I'm one of those last minute shoppers and honestly I thought I knew what to get everyone, but someone keeps changing his mind on what he want to get. Gift cards may be the way I go, who knows. We are having a really tough time deciding what to get Kailea for Christmas. Her tastes change everyday and I never know if what we get her will be what she wants.

I went to pick Her up on Friday so she could spend the weekend with us. She is a card! She was telling me how one of the girls in her class was mean to her. I really had to look back and try to remember if I had the same problems when i was her age. She just seems so much more grown up then i was at 8 years old.

Thats about all I have to say for now and it sounds as though my sick boy needs my attention.
